Born 26 Nov 1839 to Caleb and Nancy Wood, Abraham Reed Wood served in the Confederate Army from 1861 to 1865, Company G 10th Texas Infantry (Labadie Rifles) organized by Captain James S. Lauderdale and later led by Allison Nelson who was a veteran of the Mexican War. Abraham Wood fought in the Battle of Galveston Harbor October, 1862. He also fought at the Battle of Arkansas Post, Jan 9-11, 1863, and was captured by the Union Army but escaped before being imprisoned. He served until May, 1865.

 

After settling in Burleson County, Texas, Abraham married Martha Jane Isbell, daughter of Battle of San Jacinto veteran William Isbell, who also served as a Texas Ranger. Together, Abraham and Martha raised 11 children.

 

Application For Mortuary Warrant- Filed by son, listed as C.J. Wood, of Bell County Texas to the Confederate Pensioners Fund, dated 2 Aug 1917. Certificate of Undertaker, H. H. Nix, lists burial site of Roberts Cemetery.
