James 'Jim' Peters, 86, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on August 31, 2014 in Denton, Texas. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to James Chester Peters and Anna Shoustek on October 2, 1927. He married Lydia Montgomery on July 3, 1974 in Laferia, Texas.
Jim spent 12 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety on the highway patrol before becoming a Texas Ranger. He spent his last 18 years with the DPS as a Texas Ranger stationed in Corpus Christi. After retiring in 1987 Jim continued to follow his passion for life serving as a private investigator, guide fisherman, working as an investigative hypnotist for the state and finally teaching concealed handgun courses in both Corpus Christi and New Braunfels, Texas.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Marines and Merchant Marines.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, Chester Peters; mother, Anna Peters; and brother 'Bud' Peters. Jim is survived by his wife, Lydia Peters; daughters Janna Roper and Shelley Vatzlavick; and granddaughter, Riley Vatzlavick.
Burial will follow services at Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Former Texas Rangers close to Jim.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
